Connecting with your source: Meditation

The next article on the energy work series is about a very misunderstood aspect of psychic development: meditation

Misunderstood? Yes, and this is because for the majority of people, as often happens, meditation is seen with prejudice; on the other hand, magicians of many traditions claim this is a waste of time and even unnecessary.

Before entering into the topic, as I usually do, I want to address some points:

First, for people who is not into magic or mysticism: there are those who are too immersed into their material world, that they can’t see further than their eyes can; for these people, the only reality is what they can see, hear, feel and their material world is so important that when they criticize mystic studies, they don’t even have a valid argument, and the only way to provide discussion, is by discredit these activities.

Second, for magicians of different traditions: before start to post your rants I want to make some clear: I do understand the fact that every tradition has its own system of symbols, spirits, names, etc., but the point I want to bring to the table, is the fact that we as magicians, need to become much more than just conjurers or invokers; before being that, we are spirits, we are emanations of One divine source and our goal, as I mentioned in previous posts, is not become immortal, since we already are, our goal, is to claim our spiritual nature back.

Now you can rant all you want, ok? Well, let’s continue.

Hermetic and Rosicrucian traditions on the other hand do recognize that nature and therefore, as part of their practices and teachings, include meditation.

This is not a merely daydreaming or a passive state of being; this is much more dynamic than you think, and there are different reasons or goals for meditation. This article is about developing our energy work, so let’s go for it!

I will assume that you have read my previous post: Somewhere to go: Your Inner Temple and I will skip this part; if you haven’t read that post, please do it, since there is important information and practice. Once you have ascended into your Temple, the method is as follow:

First, regardless of your physical position (lying down or seated) see yourself in your temple standing or seated, as you prefer and a very important thing to remember, is that you must try to keep your point of view in first person, in other words, don’t see yourself in the image as if you were in a movie, you are the viewer, you are the observer.

Second, deep inhale slowly; while you inhale see a ray of light coming down to your head and physically you must be able to feel the chills in your physical body. When feeling the chills, make the light rotate clockwise and your point of view must be at the crown of your head.

Third, exhale slowly and keep the light rotating and try to make your physical body to feel the chills as this happens. Don’t lose the point of view from the top of your head.

Repeat the second and third step at least 5 times per meditation. After doing that, resume your normal breathing and perform the steps to descend from your Temple and closing your meditation period.

Now, since this is about ritual magic…what about physical workings? Well, to accomplish that, we perform the Middle Pillar Ritual. There is plenty of published information about that ritual, and I don’t believe I would be violating secrecy if I decide to describe it in later posts.
I hope this simple yet efficient procedure, will help you in developing your energetic body.

Somewhere to go: Your Inner Temple

This is the second article on the Energy Work series, and it deals with something that is very important if we want to develop our energetic body.

At first, it might seem that Meditation is the beginning; but it is not, and I will tell you why: from people who don’t belong to an Order, to people who attend a Lodge a common problem is evident: they don’t have somewhere to go.

Somewhere to go? Yes. Many people want to meditate but as soon as the meditation starts, whether it is guided in a group setting or an individual meditation, they get lost and they say “they don’t feel or see anything”; but what it happens, is that they don’t have a point of entry or a place where they can develop the topic on which they need to meditate; therefore according my experience, the first thing I have learned that people must have and build, is what we call in mysticism and magic as an Astral Temple, your Inner Temple.

Once you have developed your Inner Temple; Astral Temple or Celestial Sanctum, you are ready to do your work. This place is holy, intimate, totally yours, and it resides on the highest aspirations of your soul; it is a point of entry where you can commune with your Divine Source without any intermediary, without any interference.

An easy and general method for building it might be as follows:

First, sit in a comfortable position; or lay down on your bed or somewhere you feel relaxed. If seated, open your legs as the width of your shoulders and put your hands on your tights or knees; your back should be straight and relaxed. If lying down, don’t lay flat; instead, lay with an inclination of a couple of pillows; feet separated as the width of your shoulders and hands lying down on the sides.

Second, concentrate in your third eye and take three deep breaths; don’t hold your breath, just do it slowly: deep inhale; deep exhale. In the last exhale you do, see yourself inside a room. Don’t just imagine the room, feel it, feel as if you were in reality inside that room. Forget about your actual physical surroundings and concentrate in feeling yourself part of that room.

Third, recognize the place, walk around; see the walls, ceiling and start to put symbols you understand, according your belief. Might be Christian, Jewish, Muslim, or any symbolism that corresponds to your Tradition. After you have built and equiped your Temple, walk around again and recognize it, this is the place where you will be ascending on your periods of meditation; this is the place where you will put your problems to the Cosmic, to find a solution, to perform a ritual, to receive communication from your guide, your hight self, your divine counterpart.

Fourth, when ready, get out of the temple from the same door where you entered and slowly, feel how you integrate your consciousness to your physical surroundings, and feel the real floor, your chair, your bed, or where you’re lying down. Take another three deep breaths and move your feet, hands, head and finally, open your eyes.

Perform this exercise whenever you wish to enter in a period of meditation; or just to have a clear image of your Inner Temple.

You might know a more elaborate method and even you might have your Temple established, but for the magicians or people who are willing to have a better direction on their meditations, I think is very easy and fair.

On Energy Work

In the last few weeks, a discussion about energy work has been in the air on the mage’s blogosphere; I think I came late to the party, but I also brought something to the table.

Before presenting my experiences, I would like to clear up the way; why? Because there are different belief systems, traditions, concepts and even prejudices and ignorance about this important area of development.

First, this is not new age. Ancient traditions have performed and keep performing energy work, some of them are Tibetans, Egyptians, Rosicrucians, Hindus; and, why some mages insist on calling it “new age”?.

Second, this is not “mental masturbation” as many others think. We are spirits living in physical bodies; we are not the other way around, and therefore we need to keep the current flowing from our source into ourselves; this is not about passive visualization either.

Having said that, let’s proceed.

Being a Rosicrucian Magician, I understood the importance of the development of my energetic body; and I want to clarify something here: some magicians say that our goal is to become immortal and to tell the truth, that’s not our goal, since we are immortal already.
Our goal is to attain spiritual evolution, but when our spirit is embedded in a body at the moment of birth, we are bound to the limitations of the flesh; and as we grow old in life and become involved in our mundane way of living, many of us forget our real nature.

If you are an emanation of the Divine; don’t you think you have the same attributes of the Divine in your spirit? Of course you have them, and that’s why you have recognized you’re a magician, and that’s why is important to develop your enegetic body, and when you devote yourself to do it, you start to grow in three levels: spiritual, psychic and physical; and magic itself takes place into these three levels too.

When you work on developing the spiritual level; you will attune back to your source and you will have access to wisdom, access to your higher self: the most pure version of you; the angel within; the loved one and you will manifest the fruits of the spirit: love, peace and temperance.

At the same time, you will be developing the psychic level and you will be able to raise and manage energy; charge the psychic centers of your body at will and use it whenever you need it: astral projection; telepathy; clairvoyance; healing to others just by using your hands and the energy stored in your being and integrated in your aura (sphere of sensation).

And at the last in the chain, you will enjoy the benefits of having a healthy body: better digestion; better sleep; healthy heart; bones; blood.
When you have the ability to manage the energy at the psychic level, you will be able to feel the energy running on your physical body and then, you realize that this development is not a passive mentalism, as many may say.

There are many techniques to develop these three levels of energy, and this article is just the beginning of the series of articles I will write on.
